The Plate Heat Exchanger Skid Option is an integrated solution designed to provide closed-circuit operation on selected open-circuit evaporative cooling towers. By separating the process fluid from the evaporative cooling water, it combines the advantages of a closed process circuit with the efficiency of evaporative cooling.
The system integrates a Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE), circulation pump and cyclonic filter into a single compact, factory-assembled skid. The PHE transfers heat between two separate hydraulic circuits through stainless-steel plates, keeping the process fluid separated from the cooling tower water while ensuring efficient heat transfer.
Designed for easy integration and maintenance, the PHE can be opened for inspection and cleaning, providing direct access to the heat exchange surfaces. Compared with traditional closed-circuit systems based on tube bundle coils, its configuration offers greater accessibility for maintenance and cleaning.
The Plate Heat Exchanger Skid Option is suitable for applications requiring a closed process cooling circuit combined with evaporative heat rejection. It can also be considered for cooling tower retrofit projects, where an existing open-circuit cooling solution needs to be adapted to a closed process circuit.
The solution is available on selected COFINAIR cooling tower ranges, including KH, DTCÂ and VAP.
The PHE keeps the process fluid separated from the cooling tower water, providing a closed hydraulic circuit for applications where fluid separation is required.
Compared with traditional tube bundle coil configurations, the Plate Heat Exchanger solution offers a reduced risk of scaling on the heat exchange surface and facilitates cleaning when required.
The PHE is openable and cleanable, allowing direct access to the plates for inspection and maintenance. This facilitates cleaning operations and helps maintain efficient heat transfer over time.
Stainless-steel plates are supplied as standard, providing a robust heat exchange solution for demanding cooling applications.
The PHE allows the process circuit to operate without glycol, when correctly configured for the application. This eliminates the need for glycol protection in the process circuit while supporting operation during freezing conditions.
The main components (Plate Heat Exchanger, pump and cyclonic filterr) are grouped together in a single assembly. This integrated configuration simplifies system integration and provides convenient access for maintenance.
